Yui Onodera is a musician and composer based in Tokyo, Japan. After studying music and architecture, he founded the Critical Path. In terms of environmental functions and spacial relationships of sound, he employs materials from various sources ranging from field recordings, electronics, and voices, to various musical instruments, for process-based, restrained electro-acoustic, experimental and ambient pieces. He has created collaboration works with The Beautiful Schizophonic, Celer, Pjusk and Stephen Vitiello, as well as producing and contributing to domestic and international compilations and remix works. Additionally he pursues projects with diverse artists. His latest musical project with Mizkami Ryuta (a.k.a Motoro Faam) is called RESHAFT and is released on comfortzone music.

He has given live performances in venues such as Sapporo International Art Festival, Hors Pistes Japon and NTT InterCommunication Center, and has supported Brandt Brauer Frick, Cristian Vogel, Machinefabriek, and Yves De Mey for their Japanese tours. In 2013-15, he participated in Störung Festival, a festival of electronic music and visual arts, performing with Moritz von Oswald (Basic Channel), Mika Vainio (raster-noton), Francisco López (Sub Rosa), Frank Bretschneider (raster-noton)、Scanner (Sub Rosa), Fluxion (Echocord) and Murcof (Leaf). And, He has performed with artists such as Carl Stone, Christophe Charles, Ken Ikeda, ILLUHA, minamo, sawako, Chihei Hatakeyama, Kyo Ichinose.


音楽家。音楽と建築を学び、自ら主宰するプロダクションCRITICAL PATHにて国内外の広告メディア、プロダクト/インターフェイス、商空間など建築空間のための楽曲提供・サウンドデザインを手掛ける。フィールド・レコーディングによる環境音と器楽音を用いた先鋭的な電子音楽作品を国内外のレーベルより発表し、英「Wire」誌や独「DE:BUG」誌、豪「ABC」や伊「「RAI」などの国営公共放送局含む欧米メディアで高く評価される。ダンサーの鈴木 ユキオ、彫刻家の金沢 健一、建築家の藤村 龍至など分野を横断するコラボレーションや、Brian Eno等との『foundsoundscape』、Chris Watson等との都市のサウンドスケープ研究『The Acoustic City』など従来の音楽家の枠にとらわれない建築と空間、環境と音の関係性を探る多様なサウンド・プロジェクトを手掛ける。

マリインスキー劇場管弦楽団（ロシア）のクラリネット/ピアノ奏者Vadim Bondarenko、米国のサウンド・アーティストのStephen Vitiello (12k)、ノルウェーのオーディオ/ヴィジュアル・ユニットPjusk (12k)等との共作や、エレクトロニック・ミュージックにフォーカスしたデュオ・ユニットRESHAFTなどその活動は多岐に渡る。

主な仕事に『札幌国際芸術祭』(Sapporo, 2014)、『Unyazi Festival』(South Africa, 2014)、『Hors Pistes Japon』(Kyoto, 2015)、『störung festival』(Spain, 2013-15)にMoritz von Oswald (Basic Channel)、Mika Vainio、Francisco López、Frank Bretschneider (raster-noton)、Scanner, Murcof, Fluxion等と共に出演。
