今年は名古屋で初開催!

楽天テクノロジーカンファレンス 2017

楽天テクノロジーカンファレンスは2007年に始まり、今年で11年目を迎えます。楽天株式会社の本社がある東京・二子玉川、札幌、仙台、大阪、福岡、北京、上海に加えて、今年から名古屋でも開催させていただきます。 楽天からの情報発信はもちろんのこと、各分野の著名人を国内外からお招きしております。名古屋会場では二子玉川での講演をストリーミング配信するだけでなく、楽天メンバーとのランチミーティング、Beer Bash(普通に言うと飲み会)も開催予定です。 ほとんどが英語での講演となりますが、パワーポイントを見ながらなので、英語は苦手!という方でも、大まかな内容はつかみやすいと思います。

Marco Palladino(Kong)

Marco Palladino is an inventor, software developer, and internet entrepreneur. He is the co-founder and CTO of Mashape, which was started in 2010 and is based in San Francisco, California. He is currently responsible for the design and delivery of the Mashape products, while also providing the technical thought leadership around APIs and Microservices within Mashape and the external community. This includes being one of the core maintainer of Kong, the most widely adopted open-source API gateway for Microservices, that came out of Mashape. He is also the creator of the largest API marketplace in the world.

Founded in Japan in 1997 with the mission to contribute to society by creating value through innovation and entrepreneurship, Rakuten has grown to become one of the world's leading internet services companies, ranking in the top 30 in Forbes’ annual list of The World's Most Innovative Companies every year since 2012.
Rakuten has a dynamic ecosystem of more than 70 services, spanning e-commerce, digital content, communications and fintech, bringing the joy of discovery to more than 1 billion members across the world.
Born in Kobe, Mikitani was educated at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, began his career in investment banking, and earned his MBA at Harvard Business School. In 2012, he was awarded the HBS Alumni Achievement Award, one of the school’s highest honors.
Mikitani is also a recipient of the Legion of Honour, awarded by the French government in recognition of contributions to the economy and culture of France. In 2011, he was appointed Chairman of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, which has the longest history and tradition of any orchestra in Japan, and serves as Representative Director of the Japan Association of New Economy (JANE).

Pushing Frontiers of Natural Language: Is Deep Learning an Answer?

■Overview

Understanding human language is considered to be a true hallmark of machine intelligence. In the last decade, for the first time in AI history, tools for natural language processing (NLP) have transitioned from research labs to industrial applications, and are used by millions of people on a daily basis. How did deep learning impact this transition? In this talk, I will aim to answer this question. I will start by providing a short tutorial on deep learning and its uses in NLP. Next, I will discuss our recent work on addressing the limitations of this technology, including "black-box" predictions and reliance on large amounts of training data. This will cover our work on interpretability and transfer learning.

Massachusetts, USA

Regina Barzilay is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and a member of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her research interests are in natural language processing, applications of deep learning to chemistry and medical applications. She is a recipient of various awards including of the NSF Career Award, the MIT Technology Review TR-35 Award, Microsoft Faculty Fellowship and several Best Paper Awards at NAACL and ACL. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University, and spent a year as a postdoc at Cornell University.

Found it! Boosting e-commerce search conversions with machine learning at scale

■Overview

Over the past decade, e-commerce has leaped from lighthouse customers to mainstream consumers, offering online inventories with millions of products readily available to shoppers. To help buyers easily find products and fulfill their goals, it is necessary to provide effective search methods that retrieve highly-relevant items. However, manual and/or rule-based approaches to search optimization are not scalable. In this talk, we illustrate machine learning methods that have been successfully applied at web-scale to optimize search relevance for e-commerce. Additionally, we present techniques to extract semantic information from queries and precisely match product attributes to improve search relevance against structured products.

Giuseppe "Pino" Di Fabbrizio is a principal research scientist and a group leader in the Rakuten machine learning and natural language processing research team in Boston. Before joining Rakuten, he was a senior research scientist with the Amazon Alexa team in Cambridge, MA. Prior to Amazon, he was a lead research scientist at AT&T Labs - Research. His research interests include information extraction, information retrieval, natural language understanding, natural language generation, opinion mining, sentiment analysis, conversational agents, text summarization, multimodal and speech system architectures. He was one of the early team members on the Amazon Echo device project and a main contributor for natural language understanding modeling, new domains expansion, and context dialog modeling. He published more than 70 papers and was awarded 27 patents. As a senior IEEE member, he regularly contributes to international scientific committees and editorial boards.

Fernando Paulo is an Executive Officer at Rakuten.
He currently leads a global organization responsible for Rakuten's ecosystem technologies such as Rakuten ID, Rakuten Super Point and Payment Gateway.
Before Rakuten, Fernando worked at GREE International as a VP of Engineering. Prior to that, he spent 12 years at Yahoo leading multiple organization and building large scale Internet services.
He holds a BSc in Computing and Information Systems from the University of London and an MBA from MIT.
