PyCon JP 2026 Developer & Community Sprint
- Python Boot Camp
- PyLadies Tokyo

PyCon JP 2026 Developer & Community Sprint — Call for Participants and Sprint Leaders
PyCon JP 2026 is now accepting registrations for participants and applications for sprint leaders for the Developer & Community Sprint!
The sprint will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, the day after the main conference, at Hiroshima University Higashi-Senda Campus.
Whether you would like to try out something you learned at the conference, contribute to open source software, get involved in community activities, or work with others on your own project or theme, we welcome you to join us.
What Is a Sprint?
Open source software development usually takes place online.
However, when people interested in the same project or topic gather in person to discuss and work together, they can make significant progress, even in a short amount of time.
A “sprint” is a gathering where people interested in a particular project or topic collaborate on development, improvements, and other activities. Outside the Python community, a similar event may be called a “hackathon.”
The PyCon JP 2026 sprint will have two types of activities: Open Themes and Official Themes.
Bring your own computer, your skills, and your desire to work on something together with others. We look forward to seeing you there!
Open Themes and Official Themes
Open Themes
Participants and sprint leaders will work on themes related to Python that have been proposed by members of the community.
- In addition to themes registered in advance, new themes may be proposed on the day of the event.
- Themes may include maintaining an existing project, launching a new project, writing documentation, translating content, learning together, or carrying out community activities.
- At the beginning of the sprint, each sprint leader will introduce their project or activity and explain how the work will proceed.
- Participants may choose any theme that interests them.
Official Themes (3 Tracks)
To make it easy for first-time sprint participants to join, PyCon JP 2026 will offer the following three official themes:
- Python Boot Camp
A hands-on introductory session for beginners, covering environment setup and the basics of Python.
If you are interested in Python but are not sure where to start, or are looking for an opportunity to begin your learning journey, please join us.
- PyLadies Tokyo
You can choose from the following two themes:
- Try face detection with OpenCV (for those who understand basic Python syntax)
- Work independently on your own Python-related project or challenge
For Theme 1, our staff will be happy to support beginners, so please feel free to join. We hope everyone can have fun working together in a friendly and lively atmosphere! Our staff can also help with basic Python questions as much as we can. If you are interested in PyLadies operations or community activities, we would also love to have you stop by.
We look forward to seeing you!
- Thinking About Next Year’s PyCon JP
A workshop facilitated by members of the organizing team, where participants can share feedback and brainstorm ideas for next year’s PyCon JP.
We welcome anyone who would like to connect with PyCon JP staff members and other participants.
What Is a Sprint Leader?
A sprint leader proposes a theme or project to work on during the sprint, helps participants get started, and answers questions or provides guidance as needed.
You do not need to be a maintainer of the project.
All you need to do is choose a theme you care about—such as “I want to move this project forward,” “I want to work on this issue,” or “I want to organize this community activity”—and set a goal you would like to achieve during the sprint.
If participants join your theme, please introduce the project or activity, explain how the work will proceed, and provide support as needed.
- You do not need to be a maintainer of an existing project.
- A new project that you are starting yourself is also welcome.
- Themes may include documentation, translation, learning activities, or community activities, as well as software development.
- You may apply in advance or propose a theme on the day of the event.
- At the beginning of the sprint, you will introduce your theme, its goal, and how the work will proceed.
