  how the brain works as a whole is\nvisualisation of how the individual ce
 lls function. In particular\, the more\nmorphologically accurate the visua
 lisation can be\, the easier it is for\nexperts in the biological field to
  validate cell structures\; photo-realistic\nrendering is therefore import
 ant.\n\nThe Blue Brain Project has made major efforts to create morphologi
 cally\naccurate neurons to simulate sub-cellular and electrical activities
 \, e.g.\nmolecular simulations of neuron biochemistry or multi-scale simul
 ations of\nneuronal function. Ray-tracing can help to highlight areas of t
 he circuits\nwhere cells touch each other and where synapses are being cre
 ated. In\ncombination with ‘global illumination’\, which uses light\, 
 shadow\, and depth of\nfield effects to simulate photo-realistic images\, 
 this technique makes it\neasier to visualise how the neurons function.\n\n
 BRayns is a minimalistic visualiser that can perform ray-traced rendering 
 of\nneurons. It provides an abstraction of the underlying rendering engine
 s\, so\nthat the best possible data libraries can be used for the relevant
  hardware.\nThis demo shows how BRayns can be used to visualise and debug
