DevOps 界では、先駆者的な存在である Etsy で Director of
Engineering を努めた後、2013年より東京に移住し、IPONWEB にて VP Engineerig として活躍中。世界各地の DevOps やセキュリティのカンファレンスで講演を重ねている。次の音声ストリームでは、Gene Kim、Damon Edwards、Jez Humble など共に DevOps の真髄に語り合っている。

Making Operations Visible

Invisible things aren't valued. So why is operations and operational data often hidden from the rest of the organization? Or if operation data is available, why is it often hard to use or obstructed with passwords? This data-hiding is damaging since it creates divisions between groups, reduces productivity, hides problems, and means all your hard work is invisible to everyone else. Let's transform your operations monitoring in one day with only one person, one machine, and some open-source tools. The new system will allow your team, development teams, and even business groups to collect metrics they care about and be able to make their own operational dashboards. This talk will contain real examples and practical tips to help you make operations visible.

クラウド時代のニーズに合わせたモニタリングフレームワークとして、海外で認知度を高めてきている SENSU の開発者。現在は、Heavy Water Operations, LLC (OR) に所属し、もっぱらchef & sensu 関連の業務に従事し、顧客企業での DevOps 導入に必要な問題解決にあたる。

This talk is an introduction to Sensu, an open source monitoring framework

designed for the "cloud". I tell the story of how Sensu came to be, it's design goals, and the philosophy behind it. I explain how Sensu works, how it's configured, and provide practical usage examples. I share my experiences operating Sensu at scale and demonstrate what it's like to work with Sensu and Opscode's Chef.

Georgia大学でAIの修士号を習得後、ポートランドに移住しPuppet LabsでPuppetのコア部分の開発に従事する。現在は、Puppet Enterpriseの開発チームを率いている。Rubyベースのweb系アプリの開発を得意とするが、Clojureなどの他の言語での開発にも興味がある。DevOpsと自動化の支持者で、多くのエンジニアの日常の手助けなるconfiguration management toolsの開発にたずさわれることを最高の幸運と感じている。

Puppet has been a popular configuration management solution for several years, but the last year has seen many exciting changes to Puppet itself, as well as to other tools in the Puppet ecosystem and the Puppet community. The release of Puppet 3 saw massive improvements in scalability and performance over 2.8, and the 3.x series has brought many other exciting new features like native support for data bindings with Hiera and access to the experimental future parser. Other tools in the Puppet ecosystem are also evolving rapidly, with new releases of Marionette Collective supporting pluggable discovery and a more full-featured puppet agent, and PuppetDB bringing a much faster solution for stored configurations, exported resources, and reports. Puppet Enterprise 3.0 brings all of these improvements to our flagship product, along with additional orchestration features for managing Windows systems and graphical applications for managing and monitoring your infrastructure. Puppet Labs also recently acquired Cloudsmith, Inc., adding the Puppet IDE Geppetto to our suite of configuration management solutions, giving community members more powerful tools to develop and share Puppet modules via powerful integration with the Puppet Forge.

At GitHub, system administration is a first class citizen. Changes are collaboratively developed, peer reviewed, revision controlled, and ship with tests. Automation isn't just for production; we apply the same techniques to our individual developer workstations. In this talk, I'll give you a sneak peek into how a GitHub developer experiences Ops. We'll start with setting up a new machine using Boxen and jump right into the specifics of how to deploy and ship a new feature using the "ChatOps" shared command line. I will show you how we deploy configuration changes to individual and groups of hosts. We'll finish up with a look at how GitHub instruments application performance and exceptions to make it easy to spot newly introduced issues.

1984年、愛知県生まれ。2008年にヤフー株式会社に入社しメールサービスのバックエンド開発に従事。2010年、クックパッド株式会社にサービス開発エンジニアとして入社したものの、開発と運用の間を往復しているうちにインフラストラクチャー部の部長になり現在に至る。

概要: Dev と Ops の関係は、トレードオフの連続であり、時にどちらかがどちらかに譲歩をする必要が生じます。この講演では、クックパッドのインフラ部門が、開発部門とどのように協力してものづくりをしてきたかについて紹介します。

最近注目を集めているインフラ・モニターリングのクラウドサービスであるDatadogのCTO。Velocityを含む多くの多くのカンファレンスにて、運用、システムアーキテクチャ、カスターマーサポートについて講演をしている。

講演では、Datadogで20兆/日のイベントを処理するモニターリングサービスを運営してきた経験を基に、StatsDを使った実践的なモニターリング方法における重要要素を解説してもらいます。

Effective Monitoring with statsD (30 minutes)

Monitoring is a natural interface between running code, dev and ops. In this talk I will present key elements of an effective monitoring practice based on statsD, based on my experience of building a monitoring service processing over 20 billion monitoring events per day. We will go over metric collection with statsD, graphing, alerting, anomaly detection and how it all fits in the DevOps culture.
