Friends of BAT and Brave, unite! Learn about how BAT and Brave are going to change the face of digital advertising. BAT is a new, blockchain-based digital advertising and rewards platform from the inventor of JavaScript and co-founder of Mozilla & Firefox.

This is the first meet-up event in Tokyo. This time, we'll welcome two guests from Brave.

Ms. Yan Zhu, who was selected by Forbes as part of the “30 under 30 Rising Stars of Enterprise Technology” in 2015, will give a talk on “A Brave New Model for the Web.” In this talk she will introduce Brave Browser and the Basic Attention Token (BAT), which together power an alternative revenue model for the web. Brave Browser is a privacy- and security-first web browser based on Chromium that includes built-in ad-blocking, tracking and fingerprinting protection. BAT is an ERC20 token powering a web economy that brings together users, publishers and advertisers. Using modern cryptography and zero-knowledge proofs, Brave is creating a privacy-preserving alternative to the current ads ecosystem. Using Brave, your personal data never leaves your device. Brave users can earn BAT for viewing privacy-preserving ads and contribute it onward to the content creators they frequent across the web. Brave is one of the most widely used blockchain applications in the world, with 7 million monthly active users across all platforms and nearly 250,000 registered content creators.

After Ms. Yan Zhu’s presentation, Brave’s Privacy Researcher, Mr. Peter Snyder, will give a talk on “Privacy and the State of Tracking on the Web.” In this talk, he will discuss the distressing state of privacy on the web, and how Brave works to protect individuals. The talk will present both the frequency of privacy violations online, and the methods used to track users without their consent. The talk will also include an overview of the privacy defenses used by the Brave browser, both currently and planned for the future, and how these compare against other popular web privacy tools.

Brave SoftwareはJavascriptの考案者でMozillaの共同創業者であるBrendan Eichにより設立されました。利用者のプライバシー保護を最優先した次世代のブラウザBraveと、ブロックチェーンを基盤とする広告・報酬システムBATを提供しています。

今回東京では初のミートアップイベントを開催することになりました。 Brave本社より、2015年にForbesの30 UNDER 30に選ばれ現在Chief Information Security Officerを務めるYan Zhuと、プライバシーに関する調査・研究を行なっているPeter Snyderを招きプレゼンテーションと、パネルディスカッションを予定しています。

Yan Zhuからは”A Brave New Model for the Web”と題し、次世代ブラウザBraveとBasic Attention Token(BAT)と呼ばれるトークン、そしてその2つを組み合わせることでBraveが実現しようとしているウェブ上の新しい収益モデルについてご説明させていただきます。

Braveブラウザはプライバシーとセキュリティを最優先にしたChroniumベースのブラウザです。アドブロックやフィンガープリント対策機能が標準で搭載されています。一方BATはユーザ・パブリッシャー・広告主がWeb上で価値を交換するために開発されたERC20トークンです。

Braveは、最新の暗号技術とゼロ知識証明を用いて、プライバシーを保護した新しい広告システムを構築しようとしています。Braveを利用する場合、あなたの個人情報はデバイスの中だけ留まり、プライバシーは守られます。更にプライバシーを重視した新しい広告を閲覧することで、BATを獲得することができ、これを使って普段よく利用するサイトやお気に入りのクリエイターを支援することができます。Braveはブロックチェーンを用いたアプリケーションとしては最大級となっており、各プラットフォームの合計ユーザ数は全世界で毎月700万人にも及びます。また25万以上のコンテンツクリエイターがすでにパブリッシャーとして登録しています。

Yanのプレゼンテーションに続いて、Braveでプライバシーに関する調査・研究を行なっているPeter Snyderから “Privacy and the State of Tracking on the Web.”というテーマでお話させていただきます。現在のWebでいかにプライバシーが蔑ろにされているか、またユーザの同意なしにトラッキングされている状況についてご説明した上で、Braveがどのようにこれを解決しようとしているか、についてお話させていただきます。Braveが提供する・今後提供を予定しているプライバシー保護機能のご紹介、他のソリューションとの比較を行います。

その後、元AnyPay CTOで現在多くのスタートアップでアドバイザーを務める中村 智浩氏をモデレーターとしてお招きし、「ブロックチェーン・暗号通貨のWebにおける役割」というテーマでパネルディスカッションを予定しています。

Yan Zhu

Yan Zhu is the Chief Security Officer at Brave and a strong proponent of user privacy and information freedom. She was selected by Forbes as part of the “30 under 30 Rising Stars of Enterprise Technology” while working at Yahoo as a privacy engineer, and is a prolific contributor to numerous open-source projects focused on privacy and information security.

Peter Snyder

Peter Snyder is the Privacy Researcher at Brave Software. Pete has a PhD from the Computer Science department of the University of Illinois at Chicago, and publishes research in the areas of web security and privacy. He has also served as the privacy and security advisor to a variety of startups, including TIMBY, a project aiming to protect and empower citizen journalism in Africa. Pete is an avid music-maker, and has been in several wildly unsuccessful chiptune and power-pop bands.

Moderator

Tomohiro Nakamura

Tomohiro Nakamura is a freelance engineer. He is serving as a technical advisor, an architect, or a developer for multiple companies including the ones offering blockchain-related services. Previously he was CTO at AnyPay which offered Ethereum-based ICO / STO services as well as digital payments. He has also worked at Goldman Sachs and Electronic Arts as a full-stack engineer.

早稲田大学大学院を修了後、新卒でゴールドマン・サックスにエンジニアとして入社。エレクトロニック・アーツを経てCTOとしてウィキッズを創業。その後AnyPayにてCTOを務め、ペイメントサービスや ICO・STOサービスの開発を統括。その後ブロックチェーン系SaaSのスタートアップcatabiraでCTOを務めた。現在はフリーランスエンジニアとしてブロックチェーン系を含む複数社で技術支援などを行っている
